When 60000 sons of sagar king of ayodhya were reduce to ashes by the very curse of sage kapil, a way had to found to redeem them from their sins. Bringing celestial river Ganga ji to the earth and making it flow to their ashes were the only solution.
King Bhagirath a descendant of sagar achieved this stupendous task by pleasing lord shiva though severe austerities.
By the grace of lord shiva Celestial River sri Ganga ji lands on to this divine planet earth.
And finally by the grace of Lord Shiva sons of king sagar got ultimate glory to attain the wisdom of total liberation, emancipation.
